A variety of malignancies can be treated safely and effectively by interventional oncology (IO). Oncological applications for image-guided, minimally invasive procedures are constantly emerging and evolving, both in palliative and curative settings. As its importance has dramatically expanded, interventional oncology has become the fourth pillar of cancer care alongside medical, surgical, and radiation oncology.
The advantages of IO treatments, such as fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and greater cost-effectiveness, make them an excellent option for many patients. Unfortunately, these procedures are not yet universally accessible. To change this, ECIO is committed to boosting the evidence base of IO, formalising it as a clinical discipline, and improving its recognition by tumour boards. ECIO offers an unparalleled platform for knowledge exchange, furthering interventional oncology’s role in cancer care.
